Portraits; Untitled

This series consists of medium-format portraits of individuals whose presence immediately captivates me, friends, acquaintances, or strangers who carry a distinct, often classical aura. I am drawn to subjects who already possess a naturally strong personal identity, through clothing, or through persona. Rather than altering their appearance with costume or invention, I heighten what is inherently there. The process becomes one of amplification rather than transformation.

Before I plan the shoot, I spend time observing how they move through the world: their gestures, hesitations, humour, or quiet intensity. As these characteristics surface, I shape a subtle scene or set around what I know and have learnt about them, not a full narrative, but a space that mirrors their internal atmosphere. Within this environment, each sitter becomes the most pronounced version of themselves. They step into a heightened register of their own personality, occupying a zone that feels both intimate and slightly removed from the everyday.

What emerges is a collection of portraits that honour the individuality of each character while elevating them into something quietly mythic. The work explores how a portrait can reveal someone not through reinvention, but through attentive amplification, allowing their inner world to surface and take shape within the frame.
